Cleaning toilets can change your perspective!

Debra Lake

Today was the dreaded day to clean the toilets.  What a disgusting job.  Let’s face it, who gets excited about cleaning toilets?  It is a filthy job, but a necessary one.  I was fortunate because the last 10 years I had a maid that did that dirty deed.  But God spoke to me today when I was cleaning my toilet.

I lifted the lid, poured the blue stuff in and got busy.  I had already decided I was going to make the best of it and started saying to myself, this is so much fun!  No one was around so I didn’t have to impress anyone but myself and God.  The bible says that God takes us by our right hand and leads us.  So God and I cleaned the toilet together.  God turned that dirty dreaded job into a message.

First and foremost, we all have dirty work to do.  We can choose to see it as that or work that can be fun.  I told God how grateful I was because I wasn’t the one doing the job for the last 10 years.  I then realized how much I appreciated the sweet lady who did.  She always had a good attitude even when she cleaned my toilets.  I didn’t think much about it at the time, but I saw her job in a whole different light today.  She loved what she did.  I loved what I did today as well.  I looked at my toilet as a challenge.  I wanted to see how shiny and clean I could make it.  God took my life and gave me a brand new one after Jesus came into it so I compared myself to that toilet.

At one time my life was very much like that toilet bowl; filthy, nasty and filled with waste.  I was a lazy, depressed person who was wasting my life away.  I was “pooping” on other people’s lives because my own was full of it.  My life needed to be cleaned out just like my toilet bowl.

The day Jesus came into my life, he cleaned me out and started shining me up so I could shine like my toilet did today.  I was proud of the job I did today on my toilet.  God is proud of the job he is doing on me too.  He is so proud he wants me to share it with you.

It doesn’t matter how filthy your toilet bowl life is.  God can help clean it up and shine it up if you will simply turn over the toilet brush to him.  You can try to clean it up yourself, but it will never shine like it can shine when you allow God to do it his way.

Today was proof. No matter what you do if you choose to have the right attitude cleaning toilets can even be fun.  I will never look at cleaning toilets the same.  I sweated like crazy and felt so good when the job was complete.  God showed me something today that will stick with me for the rest of my life.  I hope the next time you go into your bathroom and see your toilet; you will be reminded that God can help clean you up just like you clean your toilet bowl.
