Putting Off (Mortification) and Putting On (Vivification)
¨ Matthew 5:29-30—Gouge out/cut off/put off the offending member of your body.
¨ Matthew 7:24-27—Hear and put into practice God's Word.
¨ Luke 4:4, 8, 12—Use the Word to defeat Satan ("It is written").
¨ Luke 5:15-16—Like Jesus, often withdraw to lonely places and pray.
¨ John 8:32—Know the truth and the truth will set you free.
¨ John 15:4-5, 7, 10—Abide in Christ, Christ's Word, and Christ's love to bear fruit.
¨ Acts 2:42-47—Devote yourselves together to discipleship, worship, fellowship, stewardship, and ambassadorship.
¨ Romans 6:11—Count yourself dead to sin (hamartia), but alive to God in Christ.
¨ Romans 6:12—Do not let sin (hamartia) reign as a king in your mortal body (thnētō sōmati) so that you obey its lusts (epithumiais).

¨ 2 Corinthians 7:8-12—Repent with godly sorrow that produces godly responses.
¨ 2 Corinthians 10:3-7—Demolish imaginations and reasonings and take every thought captive to obedience to Christ.

¨ Colossians 3:10-14—Since your new man (neon anthrōpon) has been put on, clothe yourself with Christ's virtues.
¨ Colossians 3:15—Let the peace of Christ umpire in your heart.
¨ Colossians 3:16—Let the Word of Christ dwell richly in you.
¨ Colossians 3:16-17—Admonish one another with all wisdom.
¨ Colossians 4:2—Devote yourself to prayer.
¨ 1 Thessalonians 2:12—Live a life worthy of the God who called you.
¨ 1 Thessalonians 3:11-12—Submit to the Lord as he makes your love increase.
¨ 1 Thessalonians 3:13—Submit to the Lord as he strengthens your heart.
¨ 1 Thessalonians 5:8—Since you belong to the light of Christ, put on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
¨ 1 Thessalonians 5:11—Encourage and build others up.
¨ 1 Timothy 4:7-8—Train yourself to be godly.
¨ 2 Timothy 1:5-7—Fan into flame the gift of God that is within you.
¨ 2 Timothy 2:1-7—Endure hardship, compete according to the rules, work hard.
¨ 2 Timothy 2:20-22—Cleanse yourself from impure pursuits and flee evil desires so you can pursue righteousness.
¨ 2 Timothy 4:7-8—Fight the good fight of faith.
¨ Hebrews 5:14—Constantly practice the lifestyle of godliness so that you train yourself to distinguish good from evil.
¨ James 4:7—Submit yourself to God and he will give you more grace.
¨ James 4:7—Resist the Devil and he will flee from you.
¨ 1 Peter 1:13—Gird up the loins of your mind, prepare your minds for action.
¨ 1 Peter 1:13—Be self-controlled.

¨ 1 Peter 2:11—Abstain from warring fleshly desires (sarkikōn epithumiōn).
¨ 1 Peter 4:1—Arm yourself with the attitude of Christ toward suffering.
¨ 1 Peter 4:2—As a result of being done with sin, do not live the rest of your earthly life for the desires of men, but rather for the will of God.
¨ 1 Peter 5:8-9—Be self-controlled and alert for your enemy the Devil is prowling about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Resist him firm in the faith.
¨ 1 John 2:6—Walk as Jesus walked.
¨ 1 John 5:4-5—Though you battle the world, you have overcome the world because you are born of God. You overcome the world by faith.
